Community Activities

Paul Harris, a Chicago lawyer started Rotary in 1905. As it grew service in the community became an essential part of the organisation. The motto became “Service Above Self”. For over a century Dudley Rotary have been doing that in our local community. These are a few of our current projects.

LITTER BUSTERS

Led by Simon Huxton club members take part in this Dudley MBC initiative. Rubbish is collected along our adopted highway - the Birmingham New Road from its junction with Priory Road and to its junction with Tipton Road.

DUDLEY FESTIVAL OF MUSIC,
DANCING AND DRAMA

This prestigious Festival is held annually in March. For many years the club has helped by providing stewards to man the doors and assist competition judges. Recently the Festival needed two new cups that the Dudley Rotary has provided.

SUPPORTING SCHOOLS

Dudley Rotary organises a 'Young Chef' and a 'Young Photographer competition each year. It is an opportunity for Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 pupils to show off their talents.

Young Chefs have 2 hours to produce a three course meal. Winners go on to the District finals and could get as far as the National finals.

ADULT LITERACY

Dudley Rotary had a talk from one of the Dudley branch of this charity. Subsequently one of our members trained to be a reading coach and for over a year has been working with an adult to help him learn to read. We have also supported the charity financially with a donation and purchasing 8 sets of specialist reading books.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

In addition we continue to support amny local charitable (not necessarily registered charities) financially with large and small donations and members donate food each month to the Lighthouse Project
